From Glossop, the A57 crosses Snake Pass through heather moorland, then drops down to Ladybower Reservoir. The road reaches Hope and Castleton before climbing Winnats Pass, a very steep limestone gorge, to Chapel-en-le-Frith. Snake Pass is sometimes closed by snow or after landslides.
