Data Controller

The data controller is the publisher of the MotoLert app. For any questions regarding your data, contact the publisher by email or use the Support page.

Data We Collect

Depending on the features you use, MotoLert may process:

• Precise location and speed to track your position, display maps, calculate routes, and present nearby alerts.
• Account information when you sign in with Apple, including your account identifier and, if shared, your name and profile photo.
• Group ride data when you voluntarily enable sharing: latitude, longitude, heading, and the display name and avatar associated with your account.
• Friends and shares if you use these features: your friends list, sent and received requests, the code of your personal link, the routes, roadbooks and group ride invitations you send or receive, and the items in your inbox.
• Notification token provided by Apple for your iPhone, with the device language, to let you know about your friends’ requests and shares.
• Garage and ride data such as motorcycles, mileage, registration plate, VIN, maintenance records, parts, notes, documents, extracted or summarized text, photos, saved places, routes, and GPS tracks that you add.
• Community reports including the type of hazard, its location, and the time of reporting.
• Technical and diagnostic data necessary for operation, security, and reliability, including the app and iOS versions and MetricKit reports about crashes, hangs, CPU or disk exceptions, and launch performance.
• Anonymous usage metrics from version 1.01: app usage events tied to a random installation identifier, described in the “Anonymous Metrics in the App” section, which you can turn off at any time.
• Email address and consent record when you join the waitlist, together with your selected language and limited marketing attribution for the visit source.
• Advertising and consent data in the free version, based on your choices and settings available on your device.

Guest Mode and Account Synchronization

In guest mode, data belonging to your guest profile, including your garage, maintenance records, documents, photos, saved rides, and preferences, stays only on that iPhone. It is not synchronized with a MotoLert account. Online services you choose to use, such as maps, community alerts, or advertising, as well as anonymous app metrics unless you turn them off, may still exchange the limited data described in the other sections of this policy.

When you sign in, the guest profile’s local data is attached and transferred to the signed-in account. It may then be synchronized with MotoLert’s infrastructure, like other account data, so it can be restored after reinstalling the app and remain associated with that account.

Purposes of Processing

• Providing real-time radar, speed, and alert features.
• Calculating and tracking user-requested routes.
• Continuing background location tracking when an active ride or navigation is in progress.
• Organizing your garage and documents.
• Publishing and maintaining community reports.
• Synchronizing and restoring data associated with your account.
• Sharing a ride and participants’ recent locations when this feature is enabled.
• Adding friends, sending them a route, a roadbook or a group ride invitation, and notifying you of their requests and shares.
• Managing accounts, subscriptions, and purchase restoration.
• Notifying you of MotoLert’s launch and sending only the essential product news accepted when joining the waitlist.
• Measuring app usage anonymously and in aggregate to improve the app, from version 1.01.
• Preventing abuse and improving MotoLert’s stability.

Location Sharing During a Group Ride

Location sharing is optional. It starts only when you choose to create or join a group ride and enable sharing. Invited members join the ride using its code, received directly or in an invitation sent to a friend, so share that code only with the riders you intend to invite.

While sharing is active, MotoLert sends your latitude, longitude, and heading approximately every three seconds, together with the display name and avatar associated with your account. This information is intended for members who joined the same ride using its code.

You can stop sharing at any time. Your last location is erased from the service no later than 120 seconds after sharing stops or no new location is received. Group ride data is deleted no later than 24 hours after the scheduled departure time and, in all cases, no later than 31 days after it is created.

Friends, Shares, and Notifications

Friends require an account and are optional. A rider becomes your friend when they open your personal link or scan your QR code, or when you accept the request they sent using your exact username. Your friends see your username and avatar. Anyone who opens your personal link also sees that username and avatar, including on the invitation web page, so share this link only with the riders you choose. You can reset it at any time; the old link then stops working.

Between friends, you can send a route (with its line, start, destination, and date), a published roadbook, or a group ride invitation. No free-text messages are exchanged. What you send arrives in your recipients’ inbox.

If you allow notifications, the token Apple provides for your iPhone is linked to your account. Notifications go through the Apple Push Notification service and contain your friend’s username and, where relevant, the title of the shared item. The token is removed when you sign out, delete your account, or when Apple reports it as invalid.

You can remove a friend, decline or cancel a request, or block a rider. Blocking ends the friendship, removes what they sent from your inbox, and prevents them from finding you, adding you, or sending you anything.

PDF Exports and Archives

PDF exports and archives are generated locally on the iPhone from the information you choose. Creating one does not automatically send it to MotoLert. If you decide to save or share a PDF, it is sent only to the app, file, or service you select in the iOS share sheet; that destination then applies its own privacy policy. Local copies remain under your control, and temporary files may be cleared by MotoLert or iOS.

Sharing and Third-Party Services

On the website, camera-entry mini-maps load their background from OpenStreetMap only when they become visible. These requests send that service your IP address, browser technical information, the motolert.app origin and the requested map area. This is the camera’s location, not your GPS position. This feature sends no account or personal-trip data. See the OpenStreetMap privacy policy.

MotoLert does not sell your personal data. Certain information may be shared with strictly necessary service providers for the features used: Apple for sign-in and purchases, mapping and routing services for navigation, MotoLert’s technical infrastructure for account synchronization, group rides, friends and their shares, reports, and anonymous app metrics, Apple for delivering notifications, SigNoz for technical diagnostic analysis, and Google for displaying advertising in the free version.

Each provider processes data according to its own terms and policies. Mapping features may vary depending on the available service and subscription type.

Waitlist entries are hosted on MotoLert’s technical infrastructure. If an email delivery provider is selected, its identity and any data transfers will be disclosed here before it is used.

Advertising and Consent

Users of the free version may see advertisements delivered via Google Mobile Ads. Where required by law, a form allows you to grant or decline the consents requested by Google. Ads are personalized only if you accept both in that form, when it is shown, and in the iOS tracking request described below; otherwise MotoLert requests non-personalized ads. These choices can be reviewed in the app settings when a privacy notice is available, and tracking permission in Settings › Privacy & Security › Tracking.

Before allowing Google Mobile Ads to access an identifier that can be used for personalized advertising and cross-app advertising measurement, MotoLert asks for permission through iOS App Tracking Transparency (ATT). Declining does not prevent you from using MotoLert or seeing non-personalized ads.

The anonymous app metrics described below are a separate choice: they use neither the IDFA nor the IDFV and are not used for advertising or for tracking as defined by ATT. Your answers to ATT and to ad consent forms do not change them, and the “Anonymous metrics” switch does not change your advertising choices.

Even for a non-personalized ad, Google may process technical information needed to deliver and measure it and to prevent fraud: IP address, device and app characteristics, ad interactions, consent signals, and device, app, or advertising identifiers. Apple’s advertising identifier (IDFA) is transmitted only when iOS and your permission allow it; otherwise, Google may still use limited identifiers for frequency capping, aggregated reporting, and fraud prevention. The Premium version removes advertising placements from MotoLert. Purchases and subscription status are managed by Apple.

Waitlist and Launch Emails

Joining the waitlist relies on your consent through a dedicated, unchecked checkbox. We record the email address, language, date and version of that consent, plus attribution limited to source, medium, and campaign. The email address is not linked to your browsing path or an analytics identifier.

This data is used only to announce the launch and send essential MotoLert news you accepted. It is retained until you withdraw consent and no longer than three years after collection or your last contact. It will be deleted earlier if the waitlist is no longer useful.

You may withdraw consent at any time through the Support page. Every email sent will also provide a simple unsubscribe method.

Website Analytics

The current measurement series renews sessions after thirty minutes of inactivity and at the UTC day boundary. Your approximate network country is estimated locally on our server from the IP address, without storing it in these statistics or sending it to an external geolocation service. No GPS point is collected. The presence view groups sessions by country over two minutes. Deduplication keys expire after thirty-six hours; aggregates are kept for up to thirteen months. An optional technical cookie excludes this browser from statistics for one year and excludes demo registrations. Previously consented visits remain subject to their retention period, but new visits are not linked across sessions.

By default, the MotoLert website measures traffic sources, UTM campaigns, pages and sections viewed, reading depth, as well as links and buttons used. This measurement is limited to the current session and feeds solely aggregated statistics. It does not include raw IP addresses, form content, or identifiers enabling recognition across sessions.

You can disable this measurement at any time below. This does not block access to the website or voluntary waitlist registration. Your email address remains separate from browsing data.

We also measure the presumed device family (such as iPhone or Android), entry-page language and family, form steps and technical error categories, and loading, responsiveness and visual stability. No entered content or error message containing personal data is sent. The entry-page family may accompany a voluntary signup, without a session identifier or a link to an individual browsing journey.

Anonymous Metrics in the App

From version 1.01, the MotoLert iPhone app sends anonymous usage metrics. They are used only to measure the app’s audience in order to improve it: activation (first launch, completing onboarding, first ride), retention (returning to the app after 1, 7, and 30 days), Premium conversion (offer shown, purchase started, completed, or restored), and choosing the right moment to ask you for an App Store review.

These metrics rely on a random installation identifier generated by the app. It has no link to your MotoLert account or to Apple’s advertising identifier (IDFA) or identifier for vendor (IDFV). It disappears when the app is uninstalled, is deleted when you turn the metrics off, and is renewed automatically after thirteen months.

The following events are measured:

• opening the app, the first time and afterwards;
• completing onboarding (with or without a motorcycle added), continuing as a guest, and creating an account;
• starting and ending a ride, with duration and distance in ranges (for example “30 to 60 min” or “10 to 25 km”) and whether it was started or stopped manually or automatically;
• calculating a route, with the chosen mode: fast, twisty, or Apple Maps;
• showing the Premium offer (with the screen it was opened from), starting or completing a purchase (monthly or annual plan), and restoring purchases;
• asking for an App Store review.

Each event carries only deliberately coarse information: the app version, the major iOS version, the language and country set on the device, whether you have a Premium subscription, and the date truncated to the hour.

The following are never collected: your location or any coordinates, your trips, your account identifier, email address and name, your motorcycles’ registration plates and VINs, and the IDFA and IDFV. Your IP address is not stored with these metrics: the API uses it only, as a temporary hash, to rate-limit uploads, and does not use it to geolocate you. Metric uploads are excluded from the technical logs of our front-end server, so your IP address is not recorded there for these uploads.

Events are sent in batches to the MotoLert API, hosted on MotoLert’s technical infrastructure, like account synchronization and reports. When you are offline, they wait in a local queue until the next upload. This data is not linked to your account or email address, is neither sold nor shared, is not used for advertising or for tracking as defined by Apple’s ATT, and is only read in aggregate. It is kept for no more than thirteen months and then deleted automatically.

We consider that these metrics fall within the consent exemption for audience measurement under Article 82 of the French Data Protection Act (loi Informatique et Libertés), as set out in the CNIL’s guidelines, because they are strictly limited to producing anonymous statistics, without cross-referencing with other processing or tracking your activity across other apps or websites. You can nevertheless object at any time with the “Anonymous metrics” switch, under the Profile tab, then Settings, Preferences section. Turning it off stops all uploads and erases pending events and the installation identifier. Events already sent, which are not linked to your account, are deleted at the end of the retention period. This setting is independent of your advertising choices and of ATT permission.

Storage and Retention

Guest profile data is stored locally until it is deleted, the app is uninstalled, or the data is transferred to an account. Temporary PDF files may be cleared by MotoLert or iOS. A saved or shared copy remains in your selected destination until it is deleted by you or that service.

Account-related data may be retained on MotoLert’s infrastructure for as long as necessary to provide synchronization and requested features, comply with legal obligations, or address a security incident. Retention periods for group locations and rides are set out in the “Group Location Sharing” section above.

Friendships are kept until they are removed, a rider is blocked, or one of the accounts is deleted. Unanswered requests stay pending until they are accepted, declined, or cancelled. In the inbox, a share is deleted after 30 days (a group ride invitation when the ride ends) and a friend event after 90 days. A notification token is kept while the iPhone stays signed in to the account.

MetricKit technical reports are sent to MotoLert’s infrastructure and then to its SigNoz observability tool. They are retained only for the operational period needed to investigate an incident and maintain service reliability and security.

Anonymous app metrics are kept for no more than thirteen months and then deleted automatically. Events waiting to be sent stay on the iPhone until the next upload; turning the metrics off erases them.

You may delete your account from within the app profile. Associated data is then deleted or anonymized, except where limited retention is mandated by law or necessary for asserting rights.

Your Rights and Choices

You may request access, rectification, deletion, or limitation of your personal data, and object to certain processing where permitted by law. You also control location, photos, camera, and notification permissions via iOS settings.

In the app, the Profile tab lets you manage your friends, block a rider, reset your personal link, and delete items from your inbox.

In the app, the “Anonymous metrics” switch (Profile tab, then Settings, Preferences section) lets you object at any time to the anonymous metrics described above.

You may withdraw consent at any time without affecting processing already carried out. You may also lodge a complaint with the French CNIL.

Changes

This policy may be updated as MotoLert evolves or regulations change. The update date will be revised on this page, and if the change is material, a notice will appear in the app.
