Identify the local programme

NHTSA describes automated speed enforcement as programmes governed locally. Do not transfer one city’s rules to another state. First establish whether the notice concerns speed, a red light or another measure, then identify the authority handling it.

Example: New York City speed cameras

NYC DOT lists $50 for its speed-camera programme, without licence points. This is not the same regime as a speeding stop by a police officer, and it is not a national US tariff.

Example: a red-light camera in New York City

NYC311 also lists $50 and no points for its red-light-camera violations. Use the city’s official services for a New York notice. Elsewhere, use the authority named on the notice instead of assuming there is one universal US form.
