Motorcycle ride in Tyrol

Stubai valley and the Grawa waterfall

46 km (28 miles), 1 hr, beginner

On the doorstep of Innsbruck, the Stubai valley is one of Tyrol’s great hiking valleys, with its mountain huts, its glacier and the WildeWasserWeg, a path that follows streams and waterfalls. From Schönberg, the road runs through Mieders and Neustift, then heads deep into the head of the valley to the car parks for the Grawa waterfall, billed as the widest in the Eastern Alps and reached in about fifteen minutes on foot. The road ends at the Mutterbergalm, at the foot of the Stubai Glacier lifts, where parking is free; it is a dead end, so you come back the same way. From Innsbruck, the old Brenner road (B182) avoids the A13 motorway, which needs a vignette, and traffic is heavy at weekends in summer.
