The road climbs the Ötztal from Längenfeld to Sölden, then up through Zwieselstein and the Hochgurgl resort to the Timmelsjoch, a border pass at over 2,400 m. The last stretch is a toll alpine road, open from about June to October. On the other side, the descent into Italy is narrow and very steep.
