Scenic Byway 12 crosses canyon and red rock country in southern Utah. From Escalante, it passes the Head of the Rocks viewpoint, drops down to Calf Creek, then follows the Hogback, a narrow ridge with no verges, to Boulder, before crossing the Boulder Mountain forest to Torrey. Crosswinds and free-roaming animals.
