Col de l’Iseran, from the Tarentaise to the Haute-Maurienne

80 km (50 miles), 1 hr 40 min, advanced

From Bourg-Saint-Maurice, the road climbs the Tarentaise valley to Val-d’Isère then crosses the Col de l’Iseran (2,764 m), one of the highest road passes in the Alps. The descent runs through Bonneval-sur-Arc and Bessans, stone villages of the Haute-Maurienne. The pass is open from about June to October, and it is always cold at the top.
