Motorcycle ride in Occitanie

Lac du Salagou and the Cirque de Mourèze

38 km (23 miles), 55 min, beginner

The Lac du Salagou, a reservoir with blue-green water, is surrounded by red earth, the ‘ruffes’, and volcanic hills: scenery much loved by walkers. From Clermont-l’Hérault, the loop passes near the dam and reaches Celles, a partly abandoned village by the water. It then goes through Octon and Salasc before the Cirque de Mourèze and its dolomite rocks. Narrow, hilly little roads, very busy at weekends in summer.
