German Alpine Road, from Füssen to Garmisch-Partenkirchen

72 km (45 miles), 1 hr 20 min, beginner

This stretch of the Deutsche Alpenstraße runs along the Bavarian Alpine foothills from Füssen to Garmisch-Partenkirchen. It passes below the castles of Neuschwanstein and Hohenschwangau, by the baroque Wieskirche, a World Heritage Site, then through Oberammergau and Ettal Abbey. Wide, easy roads, with heavy tourist traffic in summer.
